microsoftgolf is a vaporwave and electronic music project by 8lak3_, released through Bebo Records. The project debuted in 2024 as a departure from 8lak3_'s rap focused catalog, and instead drawing inspiration from vaporwave aesthetics, Windows-era multimedia, and early 3D graphics. The name references Microsoft Golf (1992), which serves as one of the project's primary visual and musical influences.
Unlike 8lak3_'s main work, microsoftgolf focuses almost entirely on instrumental compositions, utilizing chopped samples, smooth jazz, ambient textures, breakbeats, and vaporwave production. The project's artwork frequently features low-polygon golf courses, Windows interfaces, and resort imagery.

History
[edit source]
microsoftgolf officially debuted on March 29, 2024 with the release of On Par with Reality, the first vaporwave project released through Bebo Records. The album combined sample-based vaporwave with music inspired by golf games, particularly Microsoft Golf and Wii Sports Golf, establishing the project's signature genre.
Later that year, Adjust Your Grip on Reality expanded the project's sound into more relaxed aquatic and resort-inspired music. While primarily instrumental, the album featured appearances by UglyLongSleeves and TaniRift, each performing over separate versions of the same instrumental.
The third studio album, Simulated Back Nine, released on October 18, 2024, shifted toward a more traditional vaporwave sound while incorporating breakbeat influences and more atmospheric production.
Outside of solo releases, microsoftgolf has made occasional appearances on 8lak3_ projects, usually contributing instrumental production or atmospheric interludes. The project has since become one of Bebo Records' primary electronic and vaporwave acts alongside the label's rap based talents.
Following a quieter period, microsoftgolf returned in 2025 with Golf!, the project's fourth studio album. The release leaned further into the aesthetic of late-1990s golf video games, featuring track titles modeled after menu screens, golf courses, and resort environments. Compared to previous releases, Golf! embraced a brighter, more playful atmosphere while retaining the vaporwave and ambient influences established on earlier albums.
Musical Style
[edit source]
microsoftgolf blends elements of vaporwave, mallsoft, slushwave, ambient music, smooth jazz, and breakbeat. Common influences include golf simulation games, Windows operating systems, MIDI music, resort lounge music, corporate training videos, and late-1990s computer graphics.
Many releases emphasize themes of nostalgia, artificial leisure, simulated environments, and digital escapism. Golf is used less as a sport and more as a recurring visual motif representing quiet, empty digital spaces.
