8lak3_ (/ˈˈeɪt ˈlakh ˈthrē ˈʌn.dəˌskɔ/) is an independent Canadian artist, producer, and founder of Bebo Records, a label known for its experimental approach to music.

Emerging in 2020, 8lak3_ has explored a variety of genres, including rap, breakbeat, vaporwave, lo-fi, and sample-based sound collage. Their music is characterized by heavy sampling, genre-blending, and a DIY aesthetic, often incorporating elements of internet culture, gaming, and meme references.

History   [edit source]

2020: Founding of Bebo Records and Early Releases   [edit source]

In May 2020, 8lak3_ soft-launched Bebo Records as a SoundCloud account initially focused on meme edits and reuploads. Their first original release was “I Miss The Old Zuko”, a parody of Kanye West’s I Love Kanye, followed by the Christmas EP “Chris” (December 26, 2020). These projects set the tone for their humor-driven, internet-influenced approach to music.

2021: Sound Collage and Conceptual Projects   [edit source]

Throughout 2021, 8lak3_ experimented with sampling and conceptual storytelling:

• "House Music” (February 28) – An audio collage EP consisting of sound effects from ENA, Windows 95, Vine edits, Minecraft, and Five Nights at Freddy’s, accompanied by visuals.
• "Arana Album” (April 20) – A concept album dedicated to label affiliate Aranamor, referencing Among Us, Halo, Minecraft, and his dog Mop.
• “anyways” (October 17) – A genre-hopping project featuring covers, rap battles, and a country song.
• “Mas” (December 13) – A second Christmas-themed release, including the Death Grips x Wham! mashup, “Last Gripsmas”.

2022: Pamperson, "Spectrum" and Merry   [edit source]

In 2022, 8lak3_ became more focused on rap and production, inspired by a collaboration with Pamperson and TaniRift:

• “FUCK YOU” – A parody track responding to Pamperson & TaniRift’s “FUCK THE FAGS” (May 11).
• “FUCK THE FAGS PT. 2” (August 4) – 8lak3_’s first official feature with Pamperson. 8lak3_ has featured on 24 Pamperson tracks as of "The After Life"

Spectrum (Unreleased Project) – Throughout 2022, 8lak3_ released several SoundCloud singles ("all that lives will die", "blam", "Tropical Restaurant", and "Out Of Your Head"), meant for an unreleased project titled Spectrum. Some of these tracks later appeared on “Seasons Greetings: 8lak3_'s Worst” (October 2).

The third of 8lak3_'s Christmas releases, "Merry," (December 19), was criticized for its minimal effort. The release included a collaboration with TaniRift.

2023: Breakbeat, New Collaborations, and Label Expansion   [edit source]

8lak3_ expanded their musical scope and Bebo Records’ roster in 2023:

  • Burned Disks” (February 14) – A mixtape featuring Pamperson and TaniRift, including “The ABC Song”, which appeared on Pamperson’s self titled and debut album.
  • "Echoes of a Lost Chorus," an instrumental from the album, became 8lak3_'s first release on Spotify.
  • Deported Features” (April 16) – A compilation of non-sampled rap tracks featuring TaniRift, Akrious, and Pamperson.

  • Breakbeat Projects:
    • "(B:)" – A breakbeat album dedicated to a corrupted 2TB drive that held Bebo Records’ entire history. including music, photography, samples, and the Prince Zuko Archive.

The album, being a first for the 8lak3_, contains lots of breaks and samples including: MoistCritical, 17 Doctor Peppers Falling On The Floor Sound Effect, an ASMR video, Happy Feet 2, Crack Head's "Taxes" on the Spotify release only, and A clip of Pamperson, 8lak3_, and Prince Zuko in Minecraft.

    • ”(G:) SERENE” – An underwater-themed EP featuring samples from Game Grumps and Prince Zuko.

In October 2023, 8lak3_ brought 877, Aranamor, and AnotherIndieAugust into Bebo Records.

    • “Lofi 2 Smoke 2” (November 4) – Their first lo-fi release, featuring a Still Woozy cover and a composition by 877.

2024: Debut Album & Growth in Vaporwave   [edit source]

    • “Everywhere, Always!” (April 20) – 8lak3_’s first technical rap album, featuring (almost) every artist on Bebo Records, as well as UglyLongSleeves, Pamperson, Akrious, 877, AnotherIndieAugust, microsoftgolf, and lermarascon. The cover art was commissioned to RacerDG, a longtime friend.

Throughout this year, 8lak3_ would help the vaporwave artist microsoftgolf produce their next 3 albums, "On Par with Reality", "Adjust Your Grip on Reality” and “Simulated Back Nine”, all being released under Bebo Records

    2025: Lo-Fi Collaboration with 877   [edit source]

    • “Tiksi” (January 28) – A collaborative lo-fi album with 877, blending orchestral arrangements with sampled and chopped beats.

This part of the Bebopedia is unfinished, releases from members of Bebo Records may have been released and are not mentioned.

Musical Style and Influences   [edit source]

8lak3_’s music is highly experimental and often genre-fluid, with influences spanning:

    • Breakbeat & Breakcore – Evident in releases like ”(B:)” and ”(G:) SERENE”.

    • Lo-Fi & Vaporwave – Shown in “Lofi 2 Smoke 2” and their collaborations with microsoftgolf.

    • Meme Culture & Sound Collage – Integral to their early works like “House Music” and “Arana Album”.

    • Hip-Hop & Rap – Fully embraced in “Everywhere, Always!”, featuring complex beatsand collaborations.

They've has stated Prince Zuko, JPEGMAFIA, and 100 Gecs as early influences.
